Southern Youth Recruited by Chinese Cybercrime Networks, Reveal Arrested Suspects.


Rcently, a gang of cybercriminals, including Sasikumar, Sachin, Kiran, and Sharanraj, was arrested in Bengaluru, Karnataka, for orchestrating online financial scams. During interrogations, shocking revelations have surfaced about how these young men, along with others, were involved in large-scale fraud.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) unearthed a scam where these criminals impersonated CBI officers and extracted ₹2.16 crore from a businessman based in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The money was transferred to the bank accounts of four individuals from Pallipattu, Thiruvallur district — Tamilarasan (29), Ajith (28), Prakash (26), and Aravindhan (23). These four were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and held in custody for further questioning.

According to their confession, they claimed to have been working for a private company just six months prior. Through a video-calling app, they became acquainted with Sharanraj and his associates, who introduced them to a notorious Chinese cybercrime syndicate. This syndicate trained them in impersonating CBI officials to extort money.

 

Sharanraj and his group visited their village and directly instructed them on how to carry out these scams. The gang had access to countless mobile numbers from Tamil Nadu, directing the group to call the victims while pretending to be CBI officers, promising hefty commissions in return. Over time, the young men left their jobs and became fully involved in the scam.

The syndicate, which operates from China, primarily targets youth from South Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, converting them into cybercriminals. They launder the stolen funds through cryptocurrency. In total, the gang, along with their Chinese counterparts, scammed over ₹28 crore. The confession further revealed how Chinese fraud rings, while operating remotely, are manipulating local youth to carry out cybercrimes in India.
